CapTain Richard "skip" skipworth
I got my start in boating at the ripe age of 10 "crewing" on a buddies sailboat in Lake Huron. Through those early experiences, I always had this bug to be on, in, or near the water.
Those early experiences translated into earning every water merit badge on my way to becoming an Eagle Scout, and the opportunity to do a 5 year tour in the US Coast Guard. In the Guard, I served proudly as a Deck and Lead Seaman, Electronics Technician 2nd Class specializing in cryptographic equipment, and boarding team member.
After the Coast Guard, I graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. I used this degree and the experience gained for 28 years in the automotive and white goods industries, but never strayed far from the water. During this time, I raced on several sailboats, owned my own sailboat and powerboats, as well as obtained my Advanced Open Water Dive certification.
After 28 years, I exited the corporate world and acquired my 100 Ton Master License, which I am using along with my strong background in program management, my love of the water, and my desire to help people, to allow them to maximize their enjoyment of the Boating Life!
